One page per schema type: the properties it needs, a working example, and the mistakes that break it. Each one starts with the question most references skip — whether Google still produces a rich result for it at all.

3 of these no longer produce a rich result

Google has withdrawn several rich results, and a great deal of published advice has not caught up. If you are about to spend a morning adding FAQPage, HowTo or WebSite and the sitelinks search box markup for the search feature, read its page first.

Marks a page as a news article, blog post or similar editorial content, and names its author, dates and image.

BreadcrumbList

Describes the page's position in the site hierarchy, shown as a trail in search results.

Rich result: retired

FAQPage

Marks up a list of questions and answers. The rich result it was famous for no longer exists.

Marked up step-by-step instructions. Google removed the rich result in 2023.

LocalBusiness

Describes a business with a physical location or service area — address, hours, contact details.

Organization

Identifies the company behind the site, its logo, contact details and official profiles.

Product

Describes a product. Google splits this into two different experiences with different requirements.

Review and AggregateRating

Marks up a review or an average rating, shown as stars in search results.

Event

Describes a scheduled event with a date, a venue and a way to attend.

Recipe

Describes a recipe — ingredients, timings, yield and nutrition.

Describes a video so it can appear in search with a thumbnail, and support key moments.

Describes a job vacancy so it can appear in Google’s job search experience.

Describes a software product, its price, category and rating.

ProfilePage

Marks a page that is primarily about one person or organisation — an author page or a user profile.

WebSite and the sitelinks search box

WebSite with a SearchAction once produced a search box in the search result. That feature is gone.
